Weekend Update

I was able to put down rough guitars for "700 Miles," but that's all I got done. I did one track each of 6-string and 12-string, using The Girlfriend's Variax. Sounds pretty good, but it's rough and a little sloppy in places. I need to get in some more practice time, dangit.

That's all to report, gonna try to do more tracking this weekend coming up if I can.

Back in the Studio

This weekend I'm going to start recording the re-do of "700 Miles." It will be pretty quick to put that one into a workable state, because the roots of it are really very simple. The album version got pretty over-produced, really, but then that's my fault anyway. It's really supposed to be pretty much a simple acoustic song played by maybe 4 or 5 people sitting around with guitars and a banjo and maybe a harmonica and a fiddle, all traditional instruments, like some friends just hanging out on the porch some nice summer evening with a few brews and some noiseboxes.

So really, getting the basics of it down will be very fast. I'm going to record it pretty dry to try to capture that "down home" sort of sound. For the final version, I think I will ask some folky musicians that The Girlfriend knows if they'd like to come over and do some tracks. Maybe we'll even take a stab at laying it down live, that would be fun if we can get everyone together.

Hopefully I'll also be able to finally get started on "Lead Me Over," too. I'm going to put down a very basic drumbeat loop and then start hackin' over that and see what happens.
