Hello Kitty

Playing around with Artrage 2. Pain in the ass to blend colors smoothly but otherwise it's pretty fun.

Post V-Day

Here's the front of the card I made for TGF for Valentine's Day:

I'm not showing the inside cuz it's personal. :) She liked it a lot, though!

Don't forget to check out the comic, which has an appropriate relationship theme!

I've done several caricatures recently but didn't scan any of them, because I'm a dork. Also, one of them is a present and I don't want to let it out ahead of time.

I'm going to enter my Eon painting for Expose 5, a digital art annual book that showcases a lot of stuff from concept and 3D artists. Haven't heard anything about the judging of the Eon contest yet.

I'm definitely going to redo my website over the next few months. I have a lot of stuff that's available for sale but the catalog I have now is hard to get to and you can't buy anything direct from the site. So I'm going to fix that, with a nice browsable catalog and a shopping cart, and set up a much better portfolio system too!

Well Hello There!

Yep, it's been a while eh? I have been pretty busy and Internet connection at work has been spotty since we moved to the new office. I just wanted to post about the Eon Challenge, which I was able to finish. Here's the final image:

And here's a link to the final high-resolution version. (warning: 1.2MB JPG, 3636x2657 pixels)

It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. I learned some things about painting and about using Painter, and gained some confidence in my ability to turn out a decent piece of art. I have to step back from this painting for a while before I come back and try to figure out what I could have done better, but I'm pretty happy with it and hopefully it will do well in the contest. If anything, it seems a bit prosaic to me, kind of a straightforward "photograph" of a moment without much in the way of emotional content besides "Wow, that's a big-ass pyramid!" :) A lot of the other entries are much more emotional and visually "stylish," which is something I have to work on more.

I got an email today from the publisher that runs and sponsors the site where the Eon Challenge happened, and they want me to submit the image for possible inclusion in a big book of digital art that they publish every year. That would be pretty cool if I could get in that book!

That's about it for arting stuff at the moment but I will have more to post pretty soon.
